With new funding, Monumental plans to bring its construction robots to the U.S.

Monumental, an Amsterdam-based provider of construction robotics and software, raised $32 million in Series B funding to expand to the U.S. and broaden its robots’ capabilities. The company’s electric, autonomous robots lay bricks and apply mortar with millimeter precision on active construction sites, working alongside human crews.

Monumental acts as a subcontractor, charging contractors for finished walls rather than selling robots, which removes the financial and technical risk of owning equipment. The funding will help grow the team, launch in the U.S. this year, scale robot deployment across Europe, and expand the range of construction tasks beyond bricklaying.

Our goal isn’t to replace people, but to give the industry the additional capacity it desperately needs, said Salar al Khafaji, co-founder and CEO. By taking on repetitive bricklaying work, the robots allow skilled workers to focus on higher-value tasks while helping the industry build more homes and infrastructure despite persistent labor shortages.

The robots use advanced sensors, computer vision, and cranes, operated by Monumental’s AI software platform, Atrium. They can also pick up special tools for tasks like inserting wall ties and pointing mortar, working directly from digital building plans.
