GAM Enterprises has acquired certain assets of Schaeffler Ultra Precision Drives (SUPD) from Schaeffler, including intellectual property and technology to produce the PSC gear reducer. The transaction, whose terms were not disclosed, strengthens GAM’s position in precision motion control and expands its ability to serve global automation and robotics customers.
GAM has formed a new company, GAM-Melior GmbH, based in Hameln, Germany, to support and produce the PSC product. Hartmut Hoffmann has joined as Managing Director to lead operations and continued development of the PSC product line. The PSC gear reducer is built for precision motion control applications and has long been a key component for GAM, serving as the core gearing technology in the company’s flagship GPL product.
“The acquired patented technology is revolutionary in that it outperforms all other servo gearboxes on the market, represents a highly differentiated solution for high-precision applications, and is a strong fit within GAM’s broader motion control strategy,” said Craig Van den Avont, GAM CEO.
Schaeffler acquired SUPD in 2022 when it was Melior Motion GmbH, a manufacturer of precision gearboxes for robotics and automation applications. With the acquisition, Schaeffler hoped to expand its precision gearbox portfolio and secure a strong position in the industrial automation market. GAM intends to support customers of the PSC robotic gearbox product line and build on this technology platform over time, according to the CEO.
